Joanne Cunningham

Joanne Cunningham, 82 of East Peoria passed away at 3:15 AM, Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at her home in Serenity Assisted Living and Memory Care. She was born December 11, 1936 to Irene Umphryes in Chicago, IL. She married Eugene Cunningham on February 24, 1955 in Pekin. He preceded her in death on March 8, 2014. Joanne was also preceded in death by her mother. She is survived by; one son, Robert 'Buck' Cunningham of Petersburg; two daughters, Vicki (Richard) Shanklin of Toluca, IL, and Shelly Cunningham of Delavan; two grandchildren, Jabin Cunningham and Coltin (Megan) Cunningham and their two children; one brother-in-law , Bobby Cunningham; and one sister, Phyllis Everett. Joanne was of the Christian faith and lived with a positive attitude, a joy of laughter, and selfless heart to help others.She worked as a secretary for Carney's Insurance Store until her retirement. She enjoyed camping and cook-outs with her family, as well as the sport of field trialing their German Short-haired pointers with her husband. Family was her greatest love and treasure.She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, daughter- in-law, sister, sister-in law, and grandmother.She loved to cook and was known for always offering, 'Can I cook you a cheeseburger?' to all who visited her home at any time of any day. To honor that legacy, the family will be cooking cheeseburgers to share with all whose life she touched, either directly or indirectly through her family. Please join her family for one last cheeseburger from Joanne as we celebrate her life, and show our appreciation for the compassionate care she received from her caregivers at Serenity. Location: Serenity Assisted Living and Memory Care: 4000 Main Street, East Peoria : Turn off 116 onto Centennial Drive and then take the first left and follow to Serenity. Date and Time: Thursday, August 22nd, 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Cremation has been accorded. Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association. There will be private family burial at a date yet to be determined.
