Jeffery S. Abernathy

Jeffery S. Abernathy, 68, of East Peoria, IL passed away at 11:43 AM Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

Jeffery was born on October 30, 1957 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to Gilbert M. and Nina (Button) Abernathy.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving is one brother; Dennis (Susanna) Abernathy of Kingsville, TX; three sisters, Mary (Brian) Williamson of Pekin, Dianah Nelson of Marshalltown, IA, and Leann Seiss.

Jeff proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, carrying with him the values of dedication and perseverance throughout his life. Following his military service, he built a career as a truck driver, spending the last nine years on the road. He was known for his gift of conversation and never met a stranger. Whether sharing stories, exchanging opinions, or simply striking up a friendly chat, Jeff enjoyed connecting with people from all walks of life.

In his free time, Jeff found joy in listening to classic rock music, searching for hidden treasures while thrifting, and appreciating life's simple pleasures. His easygoing nature, sense of humor, and willingness to engage with others left a lasting impression on those who knew him.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at War Veterans Cemetery in Pekin with Military Honors provided by the United States Marine Corp and Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team. Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to assist Jeff’s family during this difficult time.
