Jean H. More, 95, of Pekin passed away at 2:03 pm Saturday, December 27, 2008 at the home of her son. Jean was born February 11, 1913 in Berwick, PA to Charles W. and Georgiana (Wandell)Hagenbach. She married R. H. More on September 1, 1938 at Christ Church in Berwick. He died on June 13, 2000. Preceding in death are her husband, parents and one sister. Surviving are: one daughter, Terry (Calvin) Kohler of Sharpsburg, GA; one son, Chester (Michele) More of Pekin; six grandsons; three granddaughters; three great grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Ruth More Enger of California; one niece and two nephews. Jean was educated in Berwick schools and Bucknell University, Lewisburg, PA where she graduated with B.A. and M.A. degrees. She also attended Penn State and the University of Pennsylvania. She taught English in Lewisburg High School, Green Bay East High School, Green Bay, WI, Upper Darby Jr. High in Upper Darby, PA during the military service years of her husband and at Pekin High School in 1946-1947 and as a substitute there and at Washington Jr. High School. She wrote a column, 'Remember When', Pekin people and events of the past for the Pekin Daily Times for 12 years. Her community activity included Pekin YWCA board member for 6 years, current member of YWCA Reserves, Pekin Hospital Auxiliary as publicity chairman and volunteer for the library cart and surgical waiting room services, Dirksen guild as a docent, a charter member of guild board doing publicity and member of the nominating committee, a member of Friends of the Library and former member of AAUW. Her church activity at St. Paul's Episcopal Church included teaching Sunday school for 25 years, as a member of vestry of the church and of the Faith Alive Committee, as former president and secretary of the St. Mary's Guild, a member of St. Martha's Altar Guild. Jean served with her husband as co-marshal of the Marigold Festival in 1987 and as co-chairman of the Salvation Army Christmas campaign in 1996.
