J.Douglas Payne

J. Douglas Payne, 73, of Pekin passed away Monday, February 20, 2012 at his home with his family after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Doug was born on November 18, 1938 in Peoria, IL to Buford C. "Slim" and Gladys (Gay) Payne.He married Barbara DuPage on December 20, 1969 in Pekin. Preceding him in death are his father, Slim Payne, step-mother, Irene (Emmerson) Payne, mother, Gladys Himmel, and step-father, Nelson Himmel. Surviving are: his wife, Barbara Payne of Pekin; one son, Brad (Nancy) Korb of Burbank, CA; two daughters, Sara (Clint) Blackburn and Elisa (Patrick) Davidson both of Pekin; grandchildren, Courtney and Tyler Korb, Xavier Blackburn and step-grandson, Kyle Davidson.He considered Patricia (Jerry) Minch and Loretta (Bill) Tucker to be his siblings. Doug was a graduate of Western Illinois University and later attended Bradley University as well as Illinois State University.Additionally, he received his real estate brokers license in 1968.He owned Payne Realty for 42 years and was a teacher with Pekin School District #108 for 38 years. Doug was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.He was also a member of Elks Lodge #1271, Moose Lodge #916, Pekin Eagles Lodge and Tazewell County Retired Teachers Association.He liked watching sports especially baseball, basketball and football; he loved working with and raising horses; and he enjoyed meeting and talking with people. A funeral mass will be 1:00 PM Friday, February 24, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.Monsignor Timothy Nolan will officiate.Visitation will be from 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM at the church.Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Pekin.Arrangements have been entrusted to Henderson Funeral Home in Pekin.
