James L. Wallinger, 82, of Pekin passed away at 8:55 pm Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Jim was born on September 23, 1928 in Pekin to Leroy and Mabel (Conn) Wallinger. He married Vera Turner on February 15, 1948 in Pekin. Preceding in death are one son, Mark Steven Wallinger, three sisters, Josephine Woodley, Berneda Grant and Sally Biga, two brothers, Marlan and Kenneth Wallinger. Surviving are: his wife, Vera of Pekin; two sons, Bill (Pam) Wallinger of Morton, IL and Dave (Anita) Wallinger of Meridian, Idaho; four grandchildren, Sean (Christine) Wallinger, Erin (Joel) Smith, Amanda Wallinger and Andrew (Sara) Wallinger; three great grandchildren, Samantha and Sophia Smith and Halle Wallinger. Jim was a sixty-four year member of First Christian Church where he had served has board chairman, Elder, Deacon and Scoutmaster of Troop #65. He was a member of Pekin Kiwanis Club, NRA, Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce, Steamfitters Local #353, served on the Pension Boards for Steamfitters Local 353 and Plumbers Local 63, board member for twelve years and past President of PCHS District #303, served on Pekin City Council for eleven years, former Chairman of the Pekin Police and Fire Commission, Tri County Contractors Association and served on the negotiations committee and past Grand Marshall of Pekin Winter Wonderland.
