James F. 'Henry' Slater, 71, of Canton, IL passed away at 8:15 AM Monday, April 14, 2014 at Renaissance Care Center in Canton. James was born on January 28, 1943 in Canton, IL to Wayne and Zelma (Logsdon) Slater. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, James Jr., and two brothers, Richard and Donald. Surviving is: two sons, Robert Slater of Renton, WA and Michael Slater of Anchorage, AK; one brother, Wayne (Diane) Slater of Canton; three sisters, Barbara Whitney of Bryant, IL, Selma (Stanley) Formhals of Lewistown, IL and Karen Murphy of Canton, IL; four grandchildren. James was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Vietnam War. He was a master electrician and a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1547. He also worked in Alaska for twenty-five years. He was a member of the United States Bowling Congress and bowled a 300 game and several 299 games. Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM Friday, April 18, 2014 at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton with Rev. Ron Jansen officiating. Military honors will be provided by Illinois Army National Guard. Arrangements have been entrusted to Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory in Pekin, IL.
