James N. Rasmussen, 76, of Hanna City, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 6:17 p.m. on Monday, December 1, 2025, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, surrounded by his loving family.
Born February 6, 1949, in Pekin, Illinois, to Norman and Betty (Gingrey) Rasmussen, Jim married Christine Sidell, on December 27, 1967, in Pekin. Together they built a beautiful life that would span nearly 58 years.
Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a lifelong member of Sheet Metal Workers Local #1 and a faithful member of New Covenant Church of God. An avid outdoorsman, Jim found joy in hunting, fishing, and tearing up the trails on his four-wheeler. His laugh was contagious, his stories were legendary, and his love for his family was boundless.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one beloved granddaughter, Aleea Rasmussen.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Christine Rasmussen of Hanna City; two sons, Josh (Julie) Rasmussen of Pekin and Andrew (Melissa) Rasmussen of North Pekin; five grandchildren, Cody (Mallory) Morris, Alexis Phillips, Dustin Rasmussen, Jayla Rasmussen, and Jacob Rasmussen; six great-grandchildren, Ryker, Brantley, Lorali, Knox, Tate and Blakely; two brothers, Charles Rasmussen and Jerry Rasmussen; one sister, Susan Weger; a child he supported in the Philippines, Stephanie Rasmussen; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and lifelong friends.
A Memorial Service celebrating Jim’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory, 2131 Velde Drive, Pekin. Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Army.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tazewell Animal Protective Society (TAPS), 100 TAPS Lane, Pekin, IL 61554, an organization close to Jim’s heart.
Jim will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in every story told around a campfire, every fish tale shared, and every moment his family spends together.
