James E. Jones

James E. 'Jim' Jones 83, of Pekin, passed away Tuesday evening, October 11, 2016 at his home. Jim was born January 26, 1933 in Pekin to Larston and Mildred (Hinshaw) Jones.He married Gloria Wood September 14, 1958 in Des Moines, Iowa. He is survived by his wife, Gloria; one son, Timothy (Michelle Collins) Jones of Frankfort, IL; two daughters, Ellen (Dan) McMillin of Manassas, VA, Annette (Keith) Anderson of Lake Elmo, MN; two grandchildren, Sean (Cait Caffrey) McMillin of Rockville, Maryland and Michael (Rachel Wu) McMillin of Arlington, VA; one brother, David (Faye Buchholz)Jones of Denver, CO. Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, Wanda VanDettum; one daughter-in-law, Rachel (Gerkin) Jones. Jim was an active member of many community organizations and clubs including, Pekin Rotary -Paul Harris Fellow, Life member of Salvation Army Advisory Board, Past Exalted Ruler of Pekin Elks Lodge #1271, Past President Pekin Jaycees, American Legion Post 44, Pekin Moose Lodge #916, Pekin City Council for 10 years first elected in 1995, Interim Mayor for the City of Pekin in 2009, was currently serving on the Pekin Planning & Zoning Commission, former member of the Tazewell County Zoning Board, Past President Pekin Barbershop Chorus, member of Sunset Hills Golf Club receiving the Robert Monge Best Ball-Legends Award in 2016. Jim was the Office Manager for CILCO in Pekin retiring in 1995 after 42 years of service.After retiring, he was an avid golfer and continued his community service. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Congregational United Church of Christ in Pekin for 56 years were he was a trustee and on the building committee. Funeral service will be at 10:30 am Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Congregational United Church of Christ with Rev. Dr. Jerry Tupper officiating.Visitation will be from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm Friday, October 14, 2016 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory 2131 Velde Dr., Pekin with additional visitation from 10:00 am - 10:30 am Saturday at the church.Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens.
