James V. Collins

James V. Collins 78 of Pekin, passed away at 6:22 pm Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. James was born June 5, 1938 in Ottumwa, Iowa to James E. and Ruth (Utterback) Collins.He married Mary Theleritis on September 11, 1964 in Peoria.She passed away January 7, 1993. He was also preceded in death by his parents. James is survived by two sons, James E. (Carrie) Collins of Pekin, John (Kelly) Collins of Indianapolis, IN; four daughters, Ruth (Col. Josh) Hendrix of Lebanon, IL, Georgia 'Gia' (Brad) Funk of Morton, Artice Byars of Ottumwa IA, Bobbi Jean (Dennis) Daughtery of Clearfield, IA; twelve grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; six brothers, Herbert (Kathleen) Collins of Manito, IL, Jack Collins and John Collins both of Wichita, KS, Dave (Yulanda) Collins and Gary (Lisa) Collins of Ottumwa, IA, Paul (Sally) Collins of Mobile, AL; two sisters Diane Harter of Ottumwa and Candis Collins-Strysko of Virginia Beach, VA. Jim worked as a precision machinist at Caterpillar retiring in 1994 after 30 years of service. Jim was a great daddy and grandpa.He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, and riding his Harley. He loved to laugh and tell a great story, especially a good Caterpillar story.Jim was a beloved dad and friend who always put his family before himself.He looked forward to the live entertainment and friends nightly at the Hole in the Wall, (10:30 you could set your watch by it).He was a very generous man, good council, wise, quick witted, and funny.Now Jim is walking in the sunset in heaven holding hands with his beautiful wife, Mary forever. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Monday, November 21, 2016 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory 2131 Velde Dr., Pekin.Visitation will be from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home.Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
