James "Jim" Bastian

James P. "Jim" Bastian, 79, of Pekin, IL, passed away at 4:10 AM on Monday, Dec. 29, 2014, at the Toulon Health Care Center. Jim was born Jan. 13, 1935 in Pekin, to Presley and Clara Bastian. Jim leaves very dear friends, family members, nieces and nephews to cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents, Presley and Clara Bastian; his brother, Harold; his sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Fred Copes; and his lifelong, childhood friend, Irwin L. "Bud" Bowlby, who passed away Sept. 26, 2014. Jim operated the print shop at Pekin Hospital for 45 years, where he was named Employee of the Year in 1992 for his exceptional work ethic and caring manner. He retired in 2000. Jim was loved and respected by everyone who knew him. He was a member of the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf, where he served as President and Secretary for many years. He provided exceptional service to the Society and was involved in many community activities. Henderson Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements and cremation will be accorded. A celebration of Jim's life, graveside services, and burial in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, will occur in the spring. Pastor Terry Newman will officiate.
