Jackquelin S. Williams

Jackquelin Soldwedel (Poebel) Williams, 93, of Pekin, IL passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family at 3:55 PM Saturday, December 12, 2015. Jackie was born on September 5, 1922 at the family home in Pekin, IL to Francis and Helen (Soldwedel) Poebel. She married Roy R. Williams on June 7, 1942. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Colleen Monroe and Phyllis Shirley. Surviving are: her husband, Roy of Pekin; one son, Tim (David DeKeyser) Williams of Pekin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jackie was a proud member of the PCHS graduating class of 1940. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in business from Western Illinois University. After college she was employed by Vogel's Inc. (Bird Farm) rising to the level of vice-president and secretary / treasurer of the board of directors. Later she worked for the American Red Cross as Director of the Pekin office. Jackie served on numerous civic boards including the YWCA, United Way, Miller Center, the Youth Farm League of Peoria County and was a founding member of Meals on Wheels in Tazewell County. She received the YWCA Civic Award in 1983 and was the Grand Marshal with her husband Roy of the Pekin Marigold Parade in 1998. Jackie and Roy were Chairmen of the Herget Bank Pictorial History Book in 1999. Her memberships included the Tazewell Club and Pekin Country Club. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pekin. Jackie had deep roots in the Pekin community, being born and dying as her ancestors had in the family home built by her great great great grandfather, Tim Soldwedel in the 1850's. The family would like to thank Unity-Point Hospice for their loving care and heart felt compassion. Private graveside services will be held Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Glendale Memorial Gardens with Rev. Bruce Bolin Ghitalla officiating. There will be no visitation.
