Jack Shawhan, 96, of Pekin passed away at 1:03 pm Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at Pekin Hospital. Jack was born September 11, 1914 in Pike County, IN to John L. and Edna (Hatfield) Shawhan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lilian (Lohnes) Shawhan who he married on April 19, 1941.They were married 58 years. His brother, James Shawhan preceded him in death in August 2010. He is survived by his sister Virginia (Shawhan) Bakeis of Zionsville, IN and his sister -in-law, Betty Shawhan of Petersburg, IN; five nephews, Steve Shawhan of Louisville KY, John Shawhan of Indianapolis, IN, Bill Bakeis of Zionsville, IN, Leland Bailey of Morton, IL, Bill Lohnes of Pekin, IL; four nieces, Jacquelin (Lohnes) Wilcox of Pekin, IL, Marilyn Lohnes and Evelyn Lohnes both of Tremont, IL, and Karen (Lohnes) Westerfelt of Ft. Myers, FL.He is also survived by several great nieces and great nephews. Jack served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from February 1944- January 1946. He retired from Caterpillar in 1973 after approximately 36 years of service.He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pekin, where he was active in the Men's Club. Jack was a member of William Schafer Post #44 American Legion and Roy L. King Post #1232 Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he called Bingo. Jack was a very active individual.He gathered many buckets of wild berries with which he made countless jars of jellies and jams which he gave to his many friends and family.He loved to fish and garden.Jack was well loved by his nieces and nephews.
