Irene Thies

M. Irene Thies, 94, of Pekin, IL passed away at 3:56 PM Sunday, March 30, 3014 at her home with her family by her side. Irene was born on December 8, 1919 near Danvers, IL to Hugh and Anna (Hendricks) Harris. She married Melvin Thies on May 25, 1940 in Iowa. He died on November 22, 1984. Also preceding in death are her parents, son-in-law, Walter Wood III and brother, Roy Harris. Irene is survived by two sons, Stephen (Darla) Thies of South Bend, IN and Craig (Jan) Thies of Tempe, AZ; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Thies of Manito and Mary Ellen Wood of Marquette Heights; one brother-in-law, John 'Bud' Yentes of Pekin; ten grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. Irene attended Mitchell Grade School near Danvers, graduated from Danvers High School in 1935 and from Mackinaw High School in 1936. She then attended nursing school for a year. Irene was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ where she was a member of JOY, Women's Fellowship Board, Christian Women's United and was a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years. She was also a member of Tazewell County Home Extension Pekin Unit and Red Hats. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, April 5, 2014 at St. Paul United Church of Christ with Rev. Steve Welker officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM - 7:00 Pm Friday, April 4 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory 2131 Velde Dr. Pekin and from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Tazewell County Home Extension Foundation or Harbor Light Hospice.
