Ines Guerra

Ines Guerra, 91, of Pekin, IL having received the Sacraments of the Catholic Church and surrounded by family, passed away at 9:00 PM Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Hopedale Nursing Home. Ines was born on October 25, 1926 in Talamello, Italy to Luigi & Diamonte (Dolcelti) Bevitori. She married Guido Guerra on February 5, 1951 in Borgo Maggiore, San Marino. He passed away April 28, 2016. She was preceded by her parents, her husband Guido, and four brothers. Surviving are: two sons, Maurie (Connie) Guerra of Pekin and John Guerra of Campbell, CA; two daughters, Maria Pia (Tim) Layne and Anna Lisa (David) Fisher both of Pekin; fifteen grandchildren, Nonnie (Bud) Sous, James (Stacey) Guerra, Mike (Deanna) Guerra, Lynette McElhaney, Leanna (John) Brynes, Jesse Guerra, Morgan Coggins, Jacob (Kellie Stievow) Coggins, Larry (Dr. Carrie Sherwood) Coggins, Clint (Alyssa) Coggins, T.J. Layne, Sean Layne, Nick Layne, Allie Fisher, Danie (Kyle) Kocher; twelve great grandchildren; and three brothers, Angelo, Luigi (Gigi) and Arnoldo Bevitori. Ines was raised on the family farm in Italy, working the fields, tending livestock, and selling milk in the city. After her marriage to Guido, she immigrated to Pekin through New York to the United States in 1957. One of her proudest days was the day she became a United States Citizen. Ines took great pride in caring for her home and her children. She never met a stranger, and was kind and generous to all she met. She enjoyed the morning bowling league, knitting, planting flowers, and working the vegetable garden. She savored the simple things of life. Using the daily newspaper, she taught herself to read and speak English. She was an excellent cook, who made everything from scratch. She had a cup of coffee, and a cookie for every visitor to her home. She made all feel welcome. Ines especially treasured her many friends over the years, and the new friendships with the residents & staff at Hopedale Commons Assisted Living. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 3, 2018 with Monsignor Tim Nolan as celebrant. The recitation of the Rosary will be at 4:00 PM Thursday with visitation from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory, 2131 Velde Dr., Pekin. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Pekin. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or St. Joseph Catholic School.
