Howard W. Proehl

(Pekin) Howard Walter Proehl, 75, of Pekin, passed away on Friday, June 4, 2021, at 5:46 pm at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. Born on July 5, 1945, in Pekin, Illinois to Edward and Dorothy Fuelberth Proehl, he married Patricia Jackson on August 10, 1968, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Pekin. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Lisa (Don) Regan of Pekin, and Stacie (Rev. Chad) Kendall of Geneva, IL; five grandchildren, Trey Scotti (Emily) of Cincinnati, OH, Ashley (Rand) Willette of Peoria, and Lindsey Scotti of Pekin, Isaac Kendall (Frankie) of Hammond, IN, and Samuel Kendall of Geneva; one great-grandson, Levi Kendall of Hammond; one brother, Edward Proehl of Manito, IL, and two sisters, Mary Ann Vance of Tremont, IL and Kathryn (Mike) Schmitgall of Minier, IL, along with numerous nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death. Howie was baptized into the Christian faith at St. Pauls United Church of Christ in Pekin. He grew up on his parents farm in Manito and often helped his Dad and brother on the farm in his early years, something he was always ready to talk about. He graduated from Pekin High School in 1963 and Illinois State University in 1967. Howie taught school at Rankin School in Pekin for 33 years, and in retirement, served as a substitute teacher in the Pekin schools when needed. Howie was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Pekin where he served as an elder, usher, and on various other committees. He was also a member of the Bradley Braves Club and often went to the Miller Center in Pekin to play Euchre, a game he loved to play. Howie was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Bradley Braves and rarely missed a game for either team. He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather with a wonderful sense of humor. His Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am, Friday, June 11, 2021, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Pekin with Rev. Daniel Bishop officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm Thursday, June 10, 2021, at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin.
