Hollis R Daniels

Hollis R. Daniels, 80, of Pekin, IL passed away at 7:59 PM Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at his home with his family by his side. Hollis was born on December 14, 1933 in Livingston, Tennessee to Lester W. and Grace L. (Huffer) Daniel. He married Mary Lou Campbell on December 22, 1956 in Grayville, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Dexter, Hurshell, Doc Daniel and one sister, Eddie Baker. Surviving is: his wife, Mary Lou of Pekin; one son, Doug Daniels of Pekin; one daughter, Hollie (Tom) Smillie of Morton, IL; one sister, Dimple Ellen Carlile of Waynesburg, OH; two step grandchildren, John and Alex Smillie. Hollis served in the United States Air Force from 1954 - 1958. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1962 and Master's degree from the University of Missouri in 1967 Hollis attended the First Christian Church in Pekin. He was a former member of the U.S. Air Force MARS Program and Peoria Area Radio Club. He loved bluegrass music and played locally and at their winter home in Alamo, TX. Hollis was a science teacher at Pekin Community High School for 30 years retiring in 1992. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory 2131 Velde Dr. in Pekin with Rev. Michael Roberts officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home. Additional visitation will be from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM Monday, April 28 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, IL. Graveside services with military honors will be at 1:30 PM Monday at OldUnion Cemetery near Grayville, IL.
