Herrmine Williams

Herrmine G. Williams, 94, of Pekin, IL passed away at 12:45 PM Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at Hallmark Healthcare of Pekin. Herrmine was born on May 7, 1927 in Pekin to Dirk and Marie (Eden) Groen. She married Harry J. Williams on June 16, 1946 in Galesburg, IL. He passed away on January 22, 2011. Also preceding in death is her brother-in-law, Kenneth Williams. Surviving is her niece, Melissa B. Williams of Peoria, IL and sister-in-law, Carol (Edward) Derry of Pekin, and close cousin, Marcia Jansen. Herrmine graduated from Pekin High School in 1944. She attended Knox College in music education and graduated Cum Laude from Bradley University in Elementary Education and taught for 36 years at Brush Hill, Groveland Consolidated School and District 108, Edison School in Pekin. She always enjoyed seeing former students and hearing about their successes. Herrmine was life-long member of the Second Reformed Church where she served as Elder and organist. She also taught piano and organ lessons for twenty-six years. She and Harry enjoyed their winters in Cape Coral FL, traveling, and attending musical shows and concerts. They also loved to perform together--she would play the piano and he would sing. Herrmine was a member of the following organizations: Past Worthy High Priestess of Victoria Shrine #83, White Shrine of Jerusalem in Pekin; Past Worthy Matron, Celestial City Chapter #333, Order of Eastern Star in Pekin; Past Queen of Otho Temple #36, Daughters of the Nile in Peoria; Past Royal Matron of Queen Christina Court #4, Order of Amaranth in Peoria; Past Grand Chief and Grand Organist of Pythian Sisters in Pekin; fifty-year member of PEO Sisterhood, Past President of Chapter G.W, and a member of Chapter O.E. in Pekin; Fifty-year member of American Association of University Women Peoria and Pekin Branches; Pekin Womens Club; Pekin Hospital League; fifty-year member of Alpha Theta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa teachers' sorority of Pekin; Tazewell County Retired Teachers; Life Member of Pekin Hospital Auxiliary, Life Member of YWCA in Pekin, Charter Member of Pekin Friends of WTVP, Peoria Sportsman Club, Charter member of Pekin Library Friends; Charter member of Pekin Dirksen Guild. The family would like to thank the staff at Hallmark Healthcare and Traditions Hospice for their care and compassion given to Herrmine. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Judy Kennedy and Rev. Lauren Padgett officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM 7:00 PM Monday, March 28th at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. Eastern Star services will be held immediately following visitation, at 7:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregational UCC, 2200 Willow St, Pekin, TAPS, or a charity of the donor's choice.
