Helen E. Osterman an Nonagenarian of Morton, IL departed this earthly life at 11:08 AM Thursday, April 07, 2016 at Apostolic Christian Restmor, Inc. in Morton. Helen was born December 16, 1923 at home, Kerton Township, Fulton County, Havana, Illinois, the daughter of William Harvey and Tena Florence (Kleen) Evans. Her parents predeceased her as well as four siblings and their spouses: Richard Harold Evans, Wilber Henry Evans, Florence Pearl Evans Bruner and Leslie Allan Evans. Also one grandson, Benjamin Ferguson preceded her in death. Helen and Leslie M. Osterman were married during World War II in a military wedding on Easter Sunday, April 9, 1944 at a post chapel at Fort Hood, Texas by the Post Chaplain, Reverend Darlington R. Kulp. Attendants were Sgt. and Mrs. Thomas Montieth. Helen and Leslie observed their 60th anniversary on April 9, 2004 before he died in May of 2004. Two children, Mary Alice (Corlin) Ferguson and John Mark (Sherri Robbins) Osterman were born into this union. These people survive as well as five grandchildren, several great grandchildren and one great great grandson. Mrs. Osterman was an Honor Graduate of Delavan, IL Community High School and furthered her education at Brown's Peoria School of Business. Helen's long time employers were private secretary for R.G. Dunn at Midwest Pottery Co. of Morton, IL which burned down in February 1944; Village Bookkeeper for the Gas & Water Office for the Village of Morton Office; Part time at Morton Savings and Loan; office employee for Morton Times Newspaper in Morton and retired after many years as a coordinator for the State of Illinois. Her memberships included the Morton American Legion Auxiliary, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, State of Illinois Employees Retirement System, Kennel Lake Sportsman Club, Girl Scouts where she was a leader, Tazewell County Peoria Hiking Club, Geology Section of Academy of Science and Botanist Section of Academy of Sciences, Methodist Encore and Proctor Partners. Private services were held Monday afternoon with burial on the Osterman-Evans family plot in Green Valley Cemetery in Green Valley, IL. Henderson Funeral Home and Crematory of Pekin assisted with the funeral arrangements. Cemetery Green Valley Cemetery 300 S.
