Gustav "Gus" Carl

Gustav "Gus" Carl Jr, 94 of Pekin passed peacefully away at 7:45 am, Saturday, February 24, 2024 at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Youngstown, OH on June 25, 1929 to Gustav and Madeline E. (Musshafen) Carl Sr. He married Marian E. Friedrich on May 26, 1957 in Pekin. She survives. Gus was preceded in death by; his parents, one brother Walter; and one sister, Irene Oertel. He is also survived by; one son, Steven (Julie) Carl of Delavan, IL; four grandchildren, Austin, Rachel, Sarah, and Samuel Carl; and two sisters, Gertrude Nichols of Pekin, and Margaret Fredrick of Trenton, MI. Gus was a member of St. Pauls United Church of Christ in Pekin where he had served as an usher. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He then worked at Soldwedel-Borden Dairy until he purchased what is now Carl & Nichols Shell in 1959. He retired from day-to-day operations at the age of 80. It was a sad day for him, he loved so much to work. He was a lifetime member of the Elks. Gus was a kind and considerate man, who enjoyed talking to both young and old alike. He enjoyed fishing with his buddies, softball and football. Gus was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Bears. His greatest joys were his wife, Marian going on 67 years, his son, Steve and his grandchildren who meant so much to him. His Funeral will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, March 2, 2024 at St. Pauls United Church of Christ, 101 N. 8th St, Pekin IL with Rev. Judy Kennedy officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Friday, March 1, 2024 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory, 2131 Velde Dr, Pekin, IL. An additional visitation will be one half hour before the Funeral at 10:00 am to 10:30 am. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin with military honors provided by the United States Army. Memorials may be made to St. Pauls United Church of Christ.
