Gilbert M. Abernathy

Gilbert 'Gib' M. Abernathy, 77 of Pekin passed away at 4:07 am, Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Pekin Hospital emergency room. Gib was born December 20, 1935 in Oriel, Missouri to Omar Lee and Louise Jane (Kinnard) Abernathy. He married Nina Button on March 17, 1957. He is also preceded by his parents. Gib is survived by three daughters, Mary (Brian) Williamson of Pekin, Dianah Nelson of Kansas City, MO, Leann Seiss of Peoria; two sons, Jeffery Abernathy of Morton; Dennis Abernathy of Kingsville, TX; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren and one sister, Rose Farrow. Gib retired as a laborer for Labor Local #165 of which he was a member.He was also a lifetime member of Amvets #169 North Pekin.Gib served in Missouri National Guard from 1954 -1966 retiring as a staff sergeant.He had served on the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team and the Tazewell Military Rites Team. He enjoyed playing pool and dancing. Memorial services will be at 11:00 am Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory 2131 Velde Dr., Pekin.Military Honors will be provided by the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.Burial of cremated remains will be held at a later date in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, MO.
