March 20, 1938 — September 10, 2025

George “Tony” A. Kares Jr., 87, of North Pekin, IL, passed away peacefully at 9:53 PM on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family. Tony lived a vibrant and fulfilling life, leaving behind a legacy of devotion to his family, community, and passions.

Born on March 20, 1938, in Pekin, IL, to George A. Kares Sr. and Mary (Snable) Kares, Tony grew up with a strong sense of community and hard work. On March 21, 1972, he married the love of his life, Jeanne Johnson, in Pekin. Their 53-year marriage was a testament to their unwavering commitment and shared adventures, filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, George A. and Mary Kares Sr., and his beloved daughter, Patty Heitzman. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jeanne, of North Pekin; his two sons, Rick (Gina) Simmons of La Fontaine, IN, and Kenneth R. (Judi) Simmons of Bushnell, FL; his daughter, Kimberly (John) Boswell of Marquette Heights, IL; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Tony also leaves behind his faithful canine companions, Sonny and Lilly Pad, who brought him joy and comfort in his daily life.

For over three decades, Tony dedicated himself to his career at Corn Products (later Pekin Energy), retiring in 1996 as a respected maintenance supervisor. His work ethic and leadership left a lasting impact on his colleagues and the company. A man of faith, Tony was an active member of the First Missionary Church in North Pekin and a Trustee, where he found spiritual fulfillment and community. He was also a proud member of the Peoria Area Wire Flyers Club, where he shared his enthusiasm for model aviation with fellow hobbyists.

Tony’s zest for life was evident in his many passions. An avid outdoorsman, he found solace and excitement in hunting and fishing, often sharing these moments with family and friends. Above all, Tony treasured the time spent camping with Jeanne, creating memories that spanned decades and filled their lives with joy. His love for the outdoors was matched only by his love for his family, whom he supported and cherished deeply.

In accordance with Tony’s wishes, cremation will be accorded with private family services to be held at a later date. Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory in Pekin has been entrusted with his arrangements. The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the First Missionary Church in North Pekin or a charity of choice in Tony’s memory.

Tony’s warmth, kindness, and adventurous spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and a life well-lived.
