Gary L. Tinervin, 66 of Pekin, formally of Springfield, IL. passed away at 4:40 AM, Wednesday May 30, 2018 at his home surrounded by family. He was born July 7, 1951 to James and Betty (Hite) Tinervin in Bloomington, IL. He married Andrea Gebhardt in 1978 in Pekin. Gary was preceded in death by his father; and one brother, Brad Tinervin. He is survived by his mother Betty, his wife, Andrea; one daughter, Leslie (Tony) Taylor of Athens, IL; one son Clayton (Lisa) Tinervin of Washington, IL; two grandchildren, Logan and Alaina Taylor; and his faithful K9 buddy, Gunner. Gary was a Sergeant in the Marine Corps, in which he served from 1969-1973. It was during this time that he learned his strong sense of honor and morality. Gary received his Bachelor's in Political Science from ISU with a minor in American history. He worked for the State of Illinois from 1980-2007. During that time he held the position of Assistant to the Director at the Department of Registration and Education, served in two different positions on Governor Thompson's staff, and became the Deputy Director of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs. He retired in 2007. Gary taught himself how to play drums when he was 15 years old. He played for a band called 'The Dark Side' from 1967-1969, and maintained his passion for music for the rest of his life. During his ten years of retirement, he enjoyed reading and writing extensively about history, particularly American and Ancient Roman history. When asked, Gary Tinervin would say that his greatest achievement was to father his two children. Per his wishes, cremation will be accorded and there will be no services. Private inurnment will be at Prairie Haven Cemetery, Pekin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to T.A.P.S. Cemetery Prairie Haven Cemetery 200 South Veterans Drive Pekin,IL 61554
