Gary W. Hanson

Gary W. Hanson, 76 of Cuba, IL and formerly of Manito, passed away at 10:35 PM Sunday, August 5, 2018 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. Gary was born on August 28, 1941 in Peoria, IL to George W. 'Ole' and Marcella M. (Jones) Hanson Sr. He married Sharon Chitwood. He later married Elaine J. Hahn on May 16, 1970. She passed away on November 3, 2008. He then married Margie 'Ann' Fischer on November 17, 2010 in Canton, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and step daughter, Cheryl Friedrich. Surviving are: his wife, Ann of Cuba; two sons, Tom (Tina) Hanson of Amarillo, TX and Galen (Candace) Hanson of Cuba; two daughters, Kelli Severns of Pekin and Kerri Hanson of Gurnee, IL; two step sons, Kenneth (Bonnie) Fischer of Summerville, SC and Kevin (Sandy) Fischer of Manito; one step daughter, Cathy (Larry) Fischer-McCoy of Green Valley; six grandchildren, Mitchell, Kyndi, Cali and Drake Hanson, Cort (Samantha) Severns and Shawna 'Peach'(Brandon)Major; five great grandchildren; one brother, George 'Ole' Hanson Jr. of Champaign. Gary was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War. He worked in the steel mill at Keystone Steel & Wire for 38 years retiring in 1999. One of Gary's greatest joys was training Labrador retrievers and owning his own kennels, Big Hollow Kennels in Manito. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting waterfowl and watching purple martins. He was an avid fan of all sports but especially the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Friday, August 10, 2018 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory 2131 Velde Dr. Pekin with the Rev. Allan Feltner officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM Thursday, August 9th at the funeral home. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria with military honors provided by the United States Army. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Disabled American Veterans.
