Fred H. Shanklin, 92, of Pekin passed away at 11:45 pm Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at his home. Fred was born on December 16, 1917 in Pekin to James and Lena (Heisel) Shanklin. He married Anna Neulinger on September 29, 1945 in Pekin. Preceding in death are one brother, Leonard Shanklin and two sisters, Lois Elliott and Marie Davis. Surviving are: his wife, Anna of Pekin; three daughters, Carol (Arlyn) Musselman of Burnside, IL, Rosemary Tebben of Pekin and Kathy (Curt) Goeken of Green Valley, IL; seven grandchildren, Julie Reiling, Cara Fast, Chris Musselman, Shannon Tebben-Sandoval, Sara Bryant, Amanda Goeken and Katlyn Goeken; ten great grandchildren; one sister, Caroline Reichter of Tremont; his beloved dog 'Poochie'. Fred farmed in Elm Grove Township and raised Registered Brown Swiss dairy cattle from 1945 - 1965. He worked for Meyer Morton Company until 1983. He then owned Fritz's Grain Elevator Repair until 2007. Fred was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ and the Tazewell County Farm Bureau. He was a former member of the Brown Swiss Association and Tazewell County Rural Youth and was an instructor for square dancing. He enjoyed bowling, gardening and Poochie.
