Eugene Woolsey

Eugene "Gene" Woolsey, 90, of Pekin, IL passed away at 8:26 AM Saturday, April 1, 2023 at the Richard Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL. Gene was born on June 11, 1932 in Arroll, MO to Ivy and Carmel (Frazier) Woolsey. He married Louise Ziebold on March 16, 1957 in Pekin. She passed away on March 16, 2011. Also preceding in death are his parents, one son, Bill Freeman and two brothers, Dale Woolsey and Albert Woolsey. Surviving are: two sons, Curt (Pam) Woolsey of Pekin and Albert Freeman of Pekin; three daughters, Norma (Jack) Kaebel of The Villages, FL, Carol Johnson of Canyon Lake, TX and Sandra Vice of Pekin; twelve grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Gene was a graduate of Upper Iowa University. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Korean War. He was the Supervisor of Quality Assurance at Keystone Steel and Wire, retiring in 1995 after 37 years. Gene was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church and played on the church softball team for many years. He was an avid golfer and had a hole-in-one on #8 at Parkview Golf Course. He was an expert on Civil War history. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 8, 2023 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Pekin with Rev. Daniel Bishop officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM 11:00 AM Saturday at the church. Interment will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the United States Navy. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran School or St. Johns Lutheran Church - Pekin.
