Emily M. Freidinger, 92 of Glen Carbon, IL and formerly of Pekin, IL passed away at 5:45 AM Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at her home. Emily was born October 21, 1923 in Cincinnati Township, Tazewell County, Illinois to Emil P. and Matilda B. (Eitenmiller) Olt.She married Merlin P. Freidinger in St. Paul Evangelical Church, Pekin on June 6, 1943. They resided on a farm east of Pekin until 1966, when they moved to Pekin. They moved to Glen Carbon in 1989. He preceded her in death on December 16, 2001. Also preceding her in death are her parents and one brother, Walter Olt. Surviving are: her children, Dr. Roger M. (Carol) Freidinger of Lansdale, PA, Dr. Joy L. (Keith) Honegger of Glen Carbon and Edward A. (Sharon) Freidinger of Pekin; seven grandchildren, Dr. Kathryn (Justin) Wellen of Rose Valley, PA, Elizabeth (Eric) Mellers of Piedmont, CA, Andrew (Lynsey) Honegger of Glenview, IL, Adam (Lyndi) Honegger of Wilmington, CA, Julie Honegger of Urbana, IL, Ellen (Nathan) McCarthy of Medford, OR and Anna (Jeffrey) Palmer of Boston, MA; seven great grandchildren, Sydney Wellen, Chase and Blake Mellers, Ainsley and Beckham Honegger, Colin and Nolan McCarthy. Emily was a graduate of Pekin Community High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She attended Illinois Central College. She was employed at Caterpillar, Inc. in Peoria for more than 28 years, retiring in June 1988 as an administrative secretary. Following her retirement, she worked part time at Caterpillar and at Jefferson Smurfit Corporation in Alton, IL. Emily was a lifelong member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pekin, where she was a member of the Church Council for six years, including five years as secretary. She served as superintendent, principal, and teacher in the Sunday school for 25 years and was involved in establishing the Board of Christian Education.She served on a number of other committees and was a member of the J.O.Y. Circle of the Women's Guild. After moving to Glen Carbon, she attended St. John Evangelical United Church of Christ in Collinsville. Emily was a member of the Tazewell County Home Extension for many years and was also a member of Tazewell County Farm Bureau Women's Committee. Emily enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, music, travel, golf, spectator sports, and watching any activities involving her grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, July 16, 2016 at St. Paul United Church of Christ with Rev. Dr. Brian Byrne officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM Friday, July 15 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory, 2131 Velde Dr. Pekin and from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ, 101 N.
