Elmer W. Widby

Elmer W. Widby, 91, of Pekin passed away at 2:40 PM Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Elmer was born on September 18, 1920 in Pekin to James and Alma Edith (Beckmann) Widby. He married Sally Hess on February 27, 1964 in Pekin. Preceding in death are his parents, four brothers, Jim, Al, Richard and John Widby, two sisters Helen Connett and Carol Niewoit. Surviving are: his wife, Sally of Pekin; three sons, David (Kayla)Widby of Fort Worth, TX, John (Cindy) Widby of Milwaukee, WI and Paul (Shani) Widby of Morton, IL; daughter, Ellen Kay Hill of Pekin, IL; thirteen grandchildren, Jay, Jon, Lauryn, Tim, Annemarie, Ryan and Tyler Widby, Trent, Alica and Kyle Turner, Issac Willis, Brian and Chelsea Coffelt; two great grandchildren, Tayton and Kayden Coffelt. Elmer was a life member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Pekin where he served as a Trustee, basketball coach and counselor for youth group for many years. He was a lifelong blood donor to the American Red Cross reaching 25 gallons. He was a Boy Scout leader for twenty-five years and received the Order of the Arrow award. He enjoyed camping. Elmer worked for 43 years at Caterpillar Inc. as a development engineer. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Henderson Funeral Home in Pekin with Rev. Mark Miller officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday one hour before services at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the services the services with burial of the ashes in Lakeside Cemetery at a later date.
