Edith I. Turner, 95, of Pekin, IL passed away at 2:27 AM Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Pekin Manor. Edith was born on December 30, 1918 in Salisbury, IL to Paul and Bertha (Green) Batterton. She married Virgil 'Bud' Turner on June 14, 1941 in Palmyra, MO. He passed away on July 30, 1992. Also preceding in death is one son, Gary W. Turner, six brothers and one sister. Surviving are: three sons, Bryan (Luella) Turner of St. Louis, MO, Michael (Cheryll) Turner of Decatur, IL, Virgil 'Buddy' (Stephanie) Turner Jr. of Bartonville, IL; one daughter -in-law, Joyce Turner of Pekin, IL; seven grandchildren, Brett (Jessica) Turner of Ballwin, MO, Sean and Josh Turner both of St. Charles, MO, Joel (Shannon) Turner of Kansas City, MO, Chad (Mary) Turner of Chicago, IL, Geoffrey (Courtney) Turner of St. Louis, MO and Kacey (Sam) Norris of Plainfield, IL; four great grandsons; one sister-in-law, Vera Wallinger of Pekin, IL and several nieces and nephews. Edith was a member of the First Christian Church in Pekin. She worked in the cafeteria at Pekin High School West Campus for fifteen years retiring in 1976. Edith was an avid golfer with three hole-in-ones! She was a founding member of the Ladies Early Bird Golf League - Pekin Park District. She also won the Ladies Senior State Golf Championship. She enjoyed bowling and bingo. Memorial services will be at 1:30 PM Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory 2131 Velde Dr. Pekin with Rev. Michael Roberts officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM Saturday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church or Harbor Light Hospice.
