Edith L. Lewis

Edith Lois (Tuttle) Lewis, 97, of Pekin, passed away at 5:51 pm, Saturday, September 10, 2011 peacefully at her home. Edith was born to William Atwood and Fannie May (Algeo) Tuttle on July 24, 1914 in Graymont, IL.She married Ellis S. Lewis April 8, 1961.He died October 13, 1994. Also preceding her in death were three brothers and seven sisters. She is survived by her close and exceptional caregivers; niece and nephew , Carolyn and John LaReau of East Peoria; one sister Erma(Richard) Satorius of Bloomington; fourteen nephews and nieces; Gordon (Gale) Frobish, Francis (Frobish) Grote, Harold, Russell, James, Anna, David, Douglas, Thomas and Willis Winn, Steven and Daniel Satorius, Marsha(Satorius) Fox; Michael and Ryan LaReau, Michael Roth and Michelle Davies.Edith enjoyed her many great, great and great great greatnieces and nephews. Edith graduated from Illinois State University in Normal and received her Master's Degree from North Western University in Evanston.She taught elementary education at Lostant, IL and Roosevelt Grade School Dist 108 Pekin, retiring in 1976. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin.As a convert to Catholicism,she was a popular and well respected icon in R.C.I.A. (new catholics), W.A.T.C.H. (we are the church), Benedictine Oblates of St. Mary Monastery,Rock Island, IL, and St. Joseph Mission Society. Edith was involved in Lady's of Pythie's, Pilot Club, Retired School Teacher's, Alpha Delta Cappa Sorority and local Chapter Alpha Theta. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.Father Jim Pankiewicz and Father Timothy Nolan will officiate.A Christian Wake Service will be at 5:00 pm Tuesday, September 13, 2011 with visitation following 5:30 pm -8:00 pm at Henderson Funeral Home in Pekin.Alpha Delta Kappa service will be held at 8:00 pm.Additional visitation will be from 10:00 am - 10:45 am Wednesday at the church prior to Mass.Burial will be in Rooks Creek Cemetery Graymont, IL. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Joseph Parish or Benevolent Sisters at St. Mary's Monastery in Rock Island.
