Dorothy R. Maple, 97, of Pekin passed away at 7:30 am Tuesday, February 02, 2010 at Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin. Dorothy was born on August 6, 1912 in Pekin to Edward C. and Carrie M. (Ross) Oltman. She had been married to Bill Adams, Joe Doubet and George Maple. Preceding in death are eight brothers and one sister. Surviving are: one son, Richard (Pat) Doubet of Carthage, MO; one daughter, Barbara (Jack) Swibold of Pekin; four grandsons, Gregg (Sue) Swibold, Garry (Becky) Swibold, Brian (Danni) Doubet and Dennis Doubet; numerous step grandchildren and several great grandchildren; two brothers, Vincent (Deanna) Oltman and Kenneth Oltman Sr. both of Pekin; two sisters, Georgia Utter of Pekin and Mildred Walker of Poplar Bluff, MO. Dorothy worked at American Distillery for eleven years then worked at Caterpillar, Inc. in the tool crib for thirty-six years retiring in 1977. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Pekin, VFW Auxiliary for over 50 years, Women's Illinois Bowling Congress, Peoria Area Bowling Association, Peoria Bowling Hall of Fame, and UAW 974. She was director of the Miller Center Rhythm Band for eleven years and bowled for over 50 years. At the age of 14 she was the first woman to play on a men's softball team and was the pitcher. In the 1940's she played softball for the Caterpillar Dieselettes.
