Doris Thrush

Doris Elaine Thrush, 89 of Green Valley passed away at 4:21 AM Friday, March 26, 2021 at Autumn Accolade in Green Valley, IL. She was born on July 9, 1931 in Pekin to Russell and Mary (Smith) Romans. She married Jerome Thrush on May 12, 1951 in Pekin. He passed away on July 29, 1988. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Delaina Thrush and two siblings, Virgil Romans and Lela Bright. Surviving are: one son, Derek Thrush of Covington, La; two daughters, Marsha (Barry) Grimes of Pekin, and Jyl (Bob) Waller of Athens, IL; four grandchildren, Monica Thrush, Shane Grimes, Justin Waller and Sara Waller. Doris was a graduate of Pekin High School. She was a homemaker and owned and operated Grammys House Daycare for 30 years and was known as Grammy to many Pekin families. Doris was an active and devoted member of First Baptist Church in Pekin where she was a former Sunday school teacher, Deaconess, Secretary of the Missions Committee, Nursery Director and Greeter. She was also a member of The Heaven Bound Sunday School Class and the Road Runner group at the church. She enjoyed reading, puzzle books, cooking, watching her backyard wildlife, and spending time with her friends. She taught her children and grandchildren Godly Wisdom and love. She opened her home to friends and relatives. Doris had quite a sweet tooth. There was always a variety of candy and snacks to finish off any meal. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 PM Thursday, April 1, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Pekin with Pastor Vernon Risner and Pastor Brad Martin officiating. A visitation will be one hour prior from 12:30 1:30 PM also at the church. Inurnment will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. Doris family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Comfort Plus Hospice and Autumn Accolade for Doris' exceptional care these past 8 months.
