Donna Kay Cook Meyer, 78, of Pekin formerly of Manito, passed away Thursday, April 27 in Pekin. She was born on February 20, 1945 to Lafe and Irene (Dyer) Cook of Camp Point, Illinois. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Joseph Meyer of Pekin: her children Sheila (Jeff) Wermager of Rockford, Laura (Scott) Westberg of Midlothian, Maria (Eric) Linder of Downers Grove, Sara Meyer of Palatine, and Eric (Cathy) Meyer of Springfield, 10 grandchildren: Blake Wermager; Maya, Mikayla, and Kaitlin Westberg; Isaac, Simon, & Leah Linder; Tayton, Braydon, & Caylee Meyer. Also surviving are her siblings, Carl (Joni) Cook of Payson, Janet (Harlan) Timpe of Donnelson, IA, and Joan (Rock) Weeks of Mendon, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Her parents, son, Brian Anthony, and daughter, Martha Rose preceded her in death. Donna married Joseph L. Meyer in Mendon at St. Edwards Catholic Church on April 15, 1967. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, in Manito, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society for many years. Donna graduated from Unity High School in Mendon in 1963. After high school, she worked at Moormans, in Quincy. She was an avid member of the Rural Youth serving as a board member, where she met Joseph. After staying home with her children, she returned to the workforce as a Library Assistant at Forman Primary School/Midwest Central Primary School in Manito. She enjoyed helping students find their next fun read for 25 years. In addition, she enjoyed serving her community on the Forman Center and Forman Park District Boards in Manito. Over the years, Donna spent copious hours researching her and Josephs multi-generational family trees. She loved learning about these stories, relationships, and connections to both her parents and Josephs parents while teaching the families about their family history. Donna was a seamstress as well. She designed and created her own wedding dress and many other memorable items for her family and friends, as well as crafts. A visitation will be from 5:00-7:00pm on Monday, May 1st at Henderson Funeral Home and Crematory in Pekin followed by a prayer service at 7 pm. On Tuesday, May 2nd there will be an additional visitation from 10:00-11:00am and a Mass of Christian Burial following at 11:00am at Immaculate Conception Church in Manito with Father David Whiteside officiating. The burial will immediately follow mass at St Fredericks Catholic Cemetery in Manito. The family requests any memorials in Donnas name be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or American Heart Association.
