Donna Lee Bailey

Donna Lee Bailey, 90 of Peoria passed away at 8:00 pm, Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at her home surrounded by family. She was born to Clarence and Mildred (Nutt) Turner in Peoria on August 3, 1932. She married Ben Bailey on February 18, 1954 in Pekin, IL. He preceded her in death on November 15, 1996. Donna was also preceded in death by; one son, Dirk; one brother, Dennis Turner; and one sister-in-law, Jannie Turner. She is survived by; four sons, Brett Bailey of Sparlan, Marc (Kristie) Bailey of Tremont, Dan Bailey of Peoria, and BJ (Rita) Bailey of Jackson, TN; Masahiro (Matt) Matsumoto of Tokyo, Japan, Donnas 6th son since his time as a Foreign Exchange Student with their family, eighteen grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; one brother Luis (Joanie) Turner of Metamora; and her k9 buddy Libby. Donna was a Christian woman, dedicated to her Lord, Family and Church. She was a member of the Glasford Baptist Church where she was very involved over the years with many ministries, particularly the Womens Bible Study Group. She was a 1949 graduate of Metamora High School. Donna was an amazing person, raising five boys born within seven years, in a rural home initially without running water. She was a great cook, baker, party planner and organizer. She welcomed her sons friends whenever they liked, sometimes with camping sleepovers for many days at a time in the summers. Donna was truly a friend to all. When someone stopped for a visit, she would magically, almost instantly, produce meals for everyone. The close-knit family she raised is a glowing testament to her virtue, love and caring. Her sons still fondly remember the holiday seasons that she baked for weeks. She made sweets and cookies as far as the eye could see. When she made a meal for Christmas and Thanksgiving, she would prepare multiple entrees, all the fixings you can imagine, and happily share with all that had need. Donnas love grew even larger as grandchildren and great-grandchildren were born. Family really was her greatest treasure. She is loved and will be missed by those fortunate to call her mother, aunt, grandmother or friend. A celebration of life service will be held at the Glasford Baptist Church at 10:00 AM on Saturday, 31 December 2022 with Pastor Dan Pugh and Rev. Frank Brozenec officiating. Inurnment will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens, Pekin, IL at a later date. Memorials may be made to Glasford Baptist Church or the Peoria Rescue Ministries.
