Donald C. Williams, 87, of Pekin, IL passed away at 2:46 PM Monday, August 31, 2015 at Pekin Manor. Don was born on January 19, 1928 in Pekin, IL to Charles and Emma (Johnson) Williams. He married Evelyn 'Mickey' Muller on January 5, 1952. She passed away on February 6, 2015. Also preceding in death are his parents. Surviving are: two sons, Richard (Michele) Williams of Champaign, IL and David (Karen) Williams of Pekin; one daughter, Diane (Joe) Stubbs of Pekin; three grandchildren, Blake Stubbs, Laura Williams and Brenna Williams; one sister, Mary (Ray) Smith of Pekin. Don was a veteran of the United Stated States Navy serving from 1946 - 1948 serving on the USS Columbus. He then attended the Bradley University and graduated from the Illinois State Police Academy in 1953. Don began a career in banking in 1955 at American Savings and Loan Association in Pekin. He was serving as vice president when they merged with Olympic Federal Savings and Loan. After the merger he served as the Southern Division manager until his retirement in 1989. He served as the Mayor for the City of Pekin from 1991 - 1995. During his career Don was very active in the community having been a member of the Pekin Seratoma Club, Pekin Kiwanis and the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce. He was a 51 year member of Empire Masonic Lodge #126 A.F. & A.M. of Pekin and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite-Valley of Peoria. He also served on the board of directors for the Pekin Lettes from 1965 - 1969. Don loved to read, fish and was an avid gardener. He enjoyed attending University of Illinois football games. He was an avid Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bears fan. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Friday, September 4, 2015 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory 2131 Velde Dr. Pekin with Rev. Johnnie Creasong officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM - 7:00PM Thursday, September 3 and one hour before services on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the United States Navy and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
