Donald D. Friedrich, 91, of Canton, IL passed away at 8:12 AM, Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Graham Health Systems in Canton. Don was born on August 3, 1932 in Manito, IL to Roy and Gladys (Ary) Friedrich. He married Lois "Jennie" Markello Phoebus on December 23, 1978. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marjorie Fischer. Surviving are: his wife, Jennie of Canton, IL; three sons, Mark Friedrich of Deland, FL, Jon (Grace) Friedrich of Spring Lake, IL and Chris Friedrich of St. Louis, MO; one daughter, Paula Friedrich Gensel of Pekin; grandchildren, Nicolas Gensel, Seth (Melanie) Friedrich, Ashley (Jeff) Hampton, Skylar Hoyle, Westley (Sara) Hoyle, A.J. (Dree) Friedrich, Gracie Friedrich, Sadie Friedrich, Celia Friedrich, Colton Friedrich and Isabel Friedrich; great-grandchildren, Summer, Mylee, Madelyn, Amelia, Elliett, Oaklee, Poet, Angel, Serenity, Abe and Harper; great-great grandchildren, Mila and Alexander; two step daughters, Joyce (Robert) Batterton of Farmington, IL and Cyndi (Dennis) Ratciliff of Astoria, IL and many beloved step-grand-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren and step great-great grandchildren. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Manito. Don retired from Morton Caterpillar Inc. UAW # 974 in 1981 after 31 years. After retirement Don went to work at the Morton Auto Auction for many years. He enjoyed driving cars all over Illinois and Missouri. He loved anything outdoors. Don enjoyed his work and was very proud of his service. His greatest treasure was his family, especially his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be at 12:00 PM Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory, 2131 Velde Dr., Pekin. Visitation will be one hour prior at 11:00 AM also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Meadow Lawn Cemetery in Manito where military honors will be provided by the United States Army and Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team. Dons family would like to thank Dr. Krock and his office staff for the exceptional care given to him and also to the ICU Nurses and staff at Graham Hospital.
