Don B. Veerman, 92, of Decatur, AL, formerly of Pekin, IL, passed away peacefully at 9:38 AM on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Morningside of Decatur, AL, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on April 13, 1933, in Pekin, IL, to Carl Edward and Nellie (Mammen) Veerman, Don lived a life marked by dedication, faith, and service to his country and community.
On May 26, 1963, Don married the love of his life, Della M. Camp, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Don was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving with honor and embodying the values of duty and sacrifice. For 34 years, he worked diligently at C & H Printing, where his commitment and work ethic earned him the respect of colleagues and friends. A faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church, Don found strength and community in his spiritual life, living out his values with kindness and integrity.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Nellie Veerman; his beloved son, Daniel Veerman; one sister; and two brothers. He leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience, survived by his devoted wife, Della of Decatur, AL; two daughters, Donna (Roger) Young of Falkville, AL, and Doreen (Paul) Briles of Davenport, IA; as well as seven grandchildren, Bret, Andrew and Chris Veerman, Justin Ball, Cassy Littrell, Tyler Gustafson and Alex Briles; nine great-grandchildren, Cameron, Cooper, Dylan, Broderick, Owen, Olivia, Mason, Landon and Lawson; and extended family members who will forever cherish his memory.
A graveside service to celebrate Don’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin, IL, with military honors provided by the United States Army and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team. Henderson Funeral Home and Crematory of Pekin has been entrusted with arrangements, ensuring Don’s memory is honored with care and dignity.
