Dennis Richard Eye

Dennis Richard Eye, 78, of Pekin, IL passed away at 2:16 AM Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on September 6, 1941 in Pekin to Lowell and Thelma (Gray) Eye. He married Diane E. Mervis on September 10, 1960. He was a devoted and loving husband for nearly 60 years and an incredible father raising six children. Surviving are: his wife, Diane Eye; two sons, Dennis A. Eye and Dan (Kim) Eye; four daughters, Jo (Phil) Underwood, Sue (Bill) Kells, Gail (James) Chasteen and K.C. Wineburner; fifteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren (with two on the way); one sister, Judy Lowery. Dennis graduated from Pekin Community High School, Class of 59, where he was First Chair Trumpet in the high school band. As an extremely talented piano and trumpet player, Dennis performed in the Pekin Park Concert Band under the direction of Larry Fogelberg. A lifelong Cub fan whose interests also included steam trains, classic cars, fishing, and hikes at McNaughton Park with his wife. At the age of 16, Dennis started working as an auto mechanic at Bob's Auto Specialist on Derby in Pekin where he worked for twenty years. He retired from Ray Dennison Chevrolet in 2005 where he worked in the warranty office. Dennis will be dearly missed by his family. There will be no services. Cremation will be accorded. Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with the arrangements. In Lieu of flowers contributions can be made to your local Jr. High School of High School music program.
