PEKIN - David J. Caryer, 74, of Manito passed away at 10 a.m. Monday, September 5, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born October 8, 1941, in Pekin to Oscar and Fannie (Willoughby) Caryer. He married Charlene Reuling on September 1, 1962, in Pekin. Dave is survived by his wife, Charlene; daughter, Jody (Larry) Barnes of Manito; two grandchildren, Ethan Fischer of Manito and Austin Johnson of Morton; one niece Sandy Meyers; and two nephews, Ricky and Bob DeBoer. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Eugene; and one sister, Gladys DeBoer. He was a machinist for Morton Welding, retiring in 1999 after 15 years of service. Dave was a former member of Peoria Sportsman Club and Pekin Moose Lodge #916. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. His greatest joy was taking care of his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. Dave was a Vietnam War veteran with the United States Army. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, September 9, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Father Michael Andrejek officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 8, 2016, at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory, 2131 Velde Dr., Pekin, with rosary service at 7 p.m. Inurnment will be in Woodrow Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer's or TAPS.
