Darrell H. Schmidt

Darrell H. Schmidt, 68, of Pekin, IL peacefully passed away at 2:40 PM Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Unity Point Health Methodist in Peoria, IL after succumbing to a heart attack. Darrell was born on November 13, 1953 in Peoria, IL to Robert Wayne and Leona (Herbig) Schmidt. He married Kathy Allen on April 4, 1984 in Pekin. He was preceded in death by his parents and step father, Junior Beaver. Surviving are: his wife, Kathy of Pekin; daughter, Kari (Corey) Schaer of Pekin; son, Ryan (Chantel) Schmidt of Pekin; three grandchildren, Rylan, Kit, and Dawson Schaer; brother, Wayne (Marlene) Schmidt of Pekin; many nieces and nephews. Darrell was an engineer for CENTEL / CenturyLink for 45 years retiring in 2018. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and Tri County Duck & Geese. He was an avid waterfowl hunter and over the years created an extensive collection of waterfowl and hunting memorabilia. He was very passionate about boys and girls sports, especially baseball and softball. He coached his children for many seasons. He was instrumental in organizing baseball in the Pekin junior high schools. Darrell will be remembered for his work ethic, positive attitude, constant desire to connect with his loved ones, and his humor. Darrell had the best smile and laughter. In recent years his grandchildren brought him immense joy. A visitation celebrating Darrells life will be from 4:00 PM 7:00 PM Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory. Memorial services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, December 30th at the funeral home. The family requests masks be worn.
