Darrell A. Black

Darrell A. Black, 87, of Pekin, IL passed away at 7:19 AM Saturday, October 7, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. Darrell was born January 25, 1936 in Pekin to Walter and Margaret (McHahon) Black. He married Nadine Ricci in 1963. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Wayne Black and niece, Michelle Black. Surviving are: his wife, Nadine of Pekin; one daughter, Danielle Black; and grand dog, Riley. Darrell was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served on the USS Entemedor submarine. During his naval service, Darrell worked for Nato in Paris and NASA working with the naval astronauts. He retired after 22 years of service. He then worked at the OSF Corporate office as a purchasing agent. He retired from OSF after 20 years. Darrell was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed reading, bowling and was an avid Bradley Basketball fan. Funeral services and Military Honors will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, October 11th at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory with Deacon Mark Wilder officiating. Visitation will be from Noon 1:00 PM Wednesday. Interment will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, October 12th in Glendale Memorial Gardens.
