Daniel and Betty Slabaugh of Pekin, IL have passed away. Betty, 86, passed at 9:05 AM Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Farmington Country Manor and Dan, 88 passed at 6:20 AM Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at Farmington Country Manor. Dan was born on November 22, 1933 in Pekin to George Alvin and Marie (Lucas) Slabaugh. Betty was born on December 6, 1935 in Pekin to Vernell C. and A. LaVern (Moehring) Rockhold. They were married on August 1, 1953 and they were nearing their 69th wedding anniversary. Surviving are their son Danny Slabaugh of St. Louis, MO and their daughter, Becky Morgan of Peoria, IL. They also leave three grandchildren, Benjamin, Hannah and Luke Slabaugh. Also surviving is Bettys sister, Sharlene Rockhold Fauber as well and a niece and several nephews. They are preceded in death by their parents and Dans two brothers, Robert and Glenn. Dan was a six-year veteran of the U.S. Navy and Navy Reserve, having made two trips to the South Pole, including one trip with Admiral Richard E. Byrd. He coached youth baseball for over 10 years and was a tool & die maker at Caterpillar for over 40 years. In retirement Dan was active in prison ministry groups, including Cursillo, Faith Hope & Love, and Wesley Weekend. In his spare time Dan enjoyed golf and other sports, woodworking, gardening, and landscaping. He was an active member of the St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Pekin, had served as lector, usher, and church warden. Betty was a graduate of Pekin High School and was active in arranging her class reunions. She was a legal secretary for more than 40 years, last working for Kuhfuss & Kuhfuss for over 25 years. She was an active member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Pekin, where she served as a lector, a member of the Altar Guild and the Episcopal Church Women. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, other arts and crafts, and gardening. Per Dans and Bettys wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral services. A celebration of life service will be held at a future date. Private burial will be in St. Pauls Episcopal Columbarium. Henderson Funeral Home and Crematory will be assisting with the funeral arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to TAPS or St. Pauls Episcopal Church.
