Charlene M. Caryer, 81, of Pekin, passed away peacefully at 10:48 a.m. on Friday, April 4, 2025, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born on February 27, 1944, in Pekin, Charlene was the daughter of Charles Walter and Mary M. (Strassburger) Reuling. She married David J. Caryer on September 1, 1962, in Pekin, and they shared a rich life together until his passing on September 5, 2016. Charlene was also preceded in death by her parents; her nephew, Ricky DeBoer; her father-in-law, Oscar Caryer; and her brother-in-law, Gene Caryer. Charlene leaves behind a cherished family: her daughter, Jody (George) DeWitt of Pekin; her grandsons, Ethan (Chelsea) Fischer and Austin (Mariah) Johnson, both of Pekin; and her five adored great-grandchildren, Sophia Johnson, Coral Fischer, Kaibree Fischer, Sawyer Johnson, and Camden Fischer. She is also survived by her niece, Sandy (Jay) Meyers, and her beloved canine babies, Luna and Izzy, who brought her endless joy. A faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin, Charlene was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She dedicated 35 years of her career to Caterpillar, working in the corporate office with pride and commitment. Charlene was also a member of the Women of the Moose Chapter 673 and the Peoria Sportsman Club. Alongside her husband, Dave, she relished snowmobiling and fishing adventures. At home, she found satisfaction in keeping her house spotless and tending to her yard. Above all, Charlenes heart belonged to her grandsonsshe treasured every moment spent with them, especially cheering them on at their sporting events. A devoted mother and grandmother, her warmth and love touched everyone she knew. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Father Michael Andrejek officiating. The Ladies of the Altar and Rosary will recite the Rosary at 10:30 a.m. prior to the Mass. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, April 8, 2025, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory, 2131 Velde Dr., Pekin. Inurnment will take place at Woodrow Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or T.A.P.S., causes close to Charlenes heart.
