Carolyn M. Jurgens

Carolyn M. Jurgens, 81, formerly of 617 S. 12th St passed away at 9:45 am, Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin. Carolyn was born April 17, 1925 in Pekin to Ben B. and Frances Wilson Jurgens. Surviving are several cousins: Dan Jurgens, Rhinelander, WI, Barbara Sulaski and Helen Frazell of Peoria, Louis Wilson, Corey Wilson and Frances Zobel of Pekin, JoEllen Clawes of Chicago, Jack Wilson of Clinton, IA, Judith Habben of Camden, MO, and Larry Wilson of Lacon. Carolyn graduated in 1950 from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO.She spent her entire professional life teaching nursing.For 37 years she was Director of Proctor Hospital School of Nursing, Peoria School of Practical Nursing and the Practical Nursing Program at Illinois Central College.She retired in 1986. Her greatest joy was following the lives and careers of her students.After retirement she spent her time volunteering for various organizations.She was a member of Pekin First Committee, Pilot Club, Pekin Women's Club, Chi Omega Society, Delta Kappa Gamma education society, YWCA and Y Reserves.Carolyn enjoyed her family, her friends and life. Carolyn was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin.She enjoyed reading to the pre-school children at her church.Carolyn also enjoyed being in the Handbell Choir.
