Carole Nadean Starrett

Carole Nadean (Gulon) Starrett was born on April 19, 1931 in Pekin, IL to Albert and Wilma (White) Gulon. She passed away on May 3, 2024, at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, IN. Carole graduated from Pekin Community High School one year early with the class of 1948 although she was officially adopted and affiliated with her original class of 1949. She attended Browns Business College in Peoria, IL. She was an avid reader, always enjoyed and continued to learn, and kept up with all the latest technology. She married Robert H. Starrett on September 6, 1950. Carole worked for many years in her parents restaurant, Gulons Restaurant, in downtown Pekin and worked various other jobs before she was employed as the office manager for Peoria Surgical Group from 1973-1999 when she retired. After retirement, Carole became very active with the Tazewell County Genealogical and Historical Society and the Pekin Public Library. She enjoyed researching family history, World War II, and the Korean War. During that time, Carole was the co-author of several books that were published and sold as fundraising projects. Carole was a true American Patriot and was awarded the Martha Washington Medal for her research and outstanding service to the SAR, General Joseph Bartholomew Chapter, in Bloomington, IL. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Pekin, IL, where she volunteered many years in the church finance office. Carole deeply loved and cared for her husband Bob of 72 years. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Carole is survived by one sister; Barbara Jean Fornoff of Pekin, IL; her daughter; Susan Starrett Bolen (Terry) of Pekin, IL; son, Dr. Robert Scott Starrett (Pamela) of Newburgh, IN; four grandchildren: Jason Paul Bolen (Stacy) of Pekin, IL, Nicole Starrett Cerman (Jason) of Indianapolis, IN, Emily Starrett Opell (Aaron) of Newburgh, IN, Kelsey Starrett Huber (Sean) of Newburgh, IN; five great-grandsons: Justin Paul Bolen, Vincent Aaron Opell, Ashton Rhett Opell, Hudson Lee Huber, Thomas Sean Huber; and one step grandson: Jackson Slagle. She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Robert H. Starrett, on June 15, 2023, and her father and mother. Visitation for all friends and family will be held for Carole and Bob at 10:00 AM, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 AM on July 6 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory in Pekin, IL. A private interment of ashes will follow the service at Meadow Lawn Cemetery in Manito, IL. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Caroles memory to the Tazewell County Genealogy Society, P.O. Box 312, Pekin, IL, 61555-0312.
