Carl James “Jim” Harris, 97, of Pekin passed away March 14, 2026 at OSF Richard Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
Jim was born on August 13, 1928, in Springfield, IL, to John and Helen (Davis) Harris. They preceded him is death.
Jim is survived by his children, Jim (Nancy) Harris of The Woodlands, TX, Tim (Terri) Harris of Pekin, IL, Kim (Vanessia) Harris of Pekin, IL, and Kelli Emtairah of Amman, Jordan. He is also survived by his step-children Danny (Teresa) Brooks of Port Angeles, WA, and Debbie (Randy) Anderson of Volo, IL. Jim had twelve grandchildren and seventeeen great grandchildren. He is also survived by his good friend Bernadine (Bernie) Ingolia of Pekin, IL.
Jim was preceded in death by wives Dorothy M (Corky) Harris and Bonnie Imogene (Jean) Harris.
Jim graduated from Pekin High School in 1946 and immediately joined the army. He was in the army for two years, spending 18 months in occupied Japan. Jim was proud to serve his country as part of the 35th infantry regiment, 25th division.
After serving his country, Jim began his career in the distilling business. He worked for many years at American Distilling Co. in Pekin. Jim used his broad distilling knowledge in plant management at facilities in Virginia and Minnesota, and ended his career consulting for ADM in Peoria. While consulting for ADM he had the opportunity to travel to many places including China and Russia.
Jim was a member of the St. Joseph Church in Pekin where he enjoyed singing in the Resurrection Choir. He was also a member of the Pekin Moose Lodge #916. He enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals, and enjoyed playing golf. Jim was always pretty athletic. He was still playing volleyball when in his 60’s.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory of Pekin, IL. Father Michael Andrejek will officiate funeral services at 11:00 am, on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St Vincent de Paul Emergency Food Pantry.
