Betty J. Monkman

Betty J. Monkman 91, of Pekin passed away at 7:35 am, Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at her home. Betty was born October 2, 1921 in Pekin to Justin and Amelia (Hoffert) Kern.She married Robert Kochendorfer who was killed in action while attacking Anzio Beach with Army Air Corps during WWII. She later married Virgil Monkman, they both preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her parents, son, Gary Monkman, and sister, Joanne Martens. She is survived by two sons, Richard Kochendorfer of Chicago and Gerald (Darlene) Monkman of Boston, MA; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Betty was a teacher at Roosevelt and Jefferson Schools in Pekin retiring after twenty-five years of service.She had been active in the Miller Senior Center and Township Hall. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ. At Betty's request her body has been donated to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois.A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, July 27, 2013 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pekin.
