Bernice Preston

Bernice Litterst Preston, 91, of Pekin, IL passed away at 5:55 PM Sunday, July 6, 2014 at her home. Bernice was born on October 4, 1922 in Pekin, IL to John and Hazel (Strope) Litterst. She married John R. Preston on November 12, 1942 in St. Louis, MO. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her infant twin brother, Bernard Litterst, brother, Richard Litterst and sisters, Gertrude Shannon, Ethal Jones and infant sister, Mary. Surviving are: one son, Rob (Lori) Preston of Pekin, IL; one daughter, Beverly Markello of Mentone, CA; three grandsons, Sam (Brenda) Preston of Front Royal, VA, Tony Markello of Alexandria, VA and Ryan (Lauren) Lipinski of Redlands, CA; four great grandchildren, Angela and Ryan Preston, Alexander and Karolena Lipinski; three great great grandchildren; one sister, Cecilia Schreiber (Leonard) Csupak of Orlando, FL. She and her husband managed the Second Street Dairy Queen in the 1970's. They owned and operated the Busy Corner and Preston's Flower Shop in the 1980's. Bernice enjoyed crocheting afghans to give to family and friends. She also enjoyed collecting dolls and spending time with loved ones. Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, July 11, 2014 at Lakeside Cemetery with Rev. Steve Welker officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM Friday at the Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory 2131 Velde Dr. Pekin.
