Bernadine McCoy Scamp-Just of Pekin, after 104 magnificent years, passedquietly through the veil into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 6:12 am, Sunday, August 30, 2020 at Autumn Accolade Inc. in Green Valley. She was born to Frank and Mary (Bailey) McCoy on July 19, 1916 in Tremont, IL. She married Howard H. Scamp in 1932, he preceded her in death in 1957. She married Thaddeus Just in 1970, he preceded her in death 2017. Bernadine was also preceded by; her parents; one son, James H. Scamp and her six siblings. She is survived by; four grandchildren, Rev. Mark (Margo) Scamp of Pekin, Brenda (Mike) Young of Pekin, Julia Greiner of Manteno, IL, and Melissa (Jon) Little of Pekin; eight great children; ten great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Carmen McCoy of Pekin; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Bernadine was a Christian Woman. She was a member of Pekin First United Methodist Church. She worked at Standard Brands in Pekin for 30 years retiring in the late 60's. She saw two pandemics, two world wars, the Great Depression, and was driven to school by her father in a horse & buggy. Bernadine was a remarkable woman, always dressed impeccably and with every hair in place. She was the Rock of her family and her door was always open to friends and family. Bernadine was an excellent cook. She never met a noodle she didn't love; her Chili Mac was legendary with her homemade chicken and noodles a very close second. She only knew to work hard her entire life, yet even with a full-time job, time was always made to love and listen to her grandchildren. She lived long and loved much and was much loved, she will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Bernadine's family would like to extend a special thank you to Mardell Manor, Hallmark House, Autumn Accolade and Comfort Plus Hospice for the exceptional care given to her. Her graveside service will be at 10:30 am, Thursday, September 3, 2020 at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin with Rev. Judy Doyle officiating. Guidelines regarding social distancing and wearing masks will be followed. Memorials may be made to Comfort Plus Hospice, 7150 N University St, Peoria, IL 61614.
