Barbara J. Kumpf

Barbara J. Kumpf, 87, of Pekin, IL passed away at 11:15 PM Monday, September 4, 2017 at Pekin Manor. Barb was born on September 11, 1929 in Port Arthur, TX to Willie E. and Erma M. (Miller) Walker. She married Charles M. Kumpf on April 22, 1950 in Pekin. He passed away on August 16, 1991. Also preceding in death were her parents, five brothers and two sisters. Surviving are: two daughters, Debbie (Carl) Strauch Galesburg, IL and Cathy Lofthouse of Lafayette, IN; four grandchildren, Jason (Marissa) Lofthouse, Michele (Michael) Cooley, Chris Strauch and Laura Strauch; four great-grandchildren, Evan Cooley, Eloise, Emmeline and Ulysses Lofthouse; one brother, Lawrence Walker of Ashdown, AK. Barb was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Pekin Hospital League and volunteered at Pekin Township. She had worked for Montgomery Wards and Midstate Phone Company, but to her, the job most important was being a wife, mother and grandmother. Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM Saturday, September 9, 2017 at St. Paul United Church of Christ with Rev. Dr. Brian Byrne officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM Friday, September 8th at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory, 2131 Velde Dr. in Pekin. Additional visitation will be from 1:00 PM - 1:30 PM Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ or Pekin Hospital League. Barb's family would like to thank the staff at John Evans for her care and friendship over the last three years and to the staff at Pekin Manor and Hospice Compassus as she completed this part of her life.
