Austin G. Smith

Austin Gardner Smith, 38, of Pekin, Illinois, passed away surrounded by his family on August 8, 2026.

Austin was born of January 28, 1988 in Pekin to Scott and Elaine (Padorke) Smith.

Austin was a remarkable person whose intelligence, humor, generosity, and genuine warmth touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. He possessed a brilliant mind and an insatiable love of reading, along with a quick wit that could bring a smile to anyone’s face. His infectious smile and optimistic outlook were among the many qualities that made him so special.

Austin had a rare ability to combine intelligence with practical skill. He was gifted with his hands and had a natural talent for plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, and just about any project that came his way. There was very little he wouldn’t attempt to fix, build, or figure out. But perhaps what he was best at fixing was a bad day. Austin was always willing to lend a hand, solve a problem, or simply make someone laugh.

He gave generously of himself to the people he loved. Whether someone needed help with a project, a repair around the house, or just someone to talk to, Austin was there. He never seemed to hesitate when someone needed him.

Even in death, Austin’s generous spirit continues. He chose to be an organ donor, giving others the opportunity for life and allowing a part of his caring nature to live on through others.

Austin is survived by his parents, Elaine and Scott Smith; his brother, Lucas Smith and wife, Trisha; and his beloved niece, Lily, along with extended family and many friends who will forever cherish his memory.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with Austin’s arrangements.

Austin’s life was far too short, but the love, laughter, and kindness he gave to others will endure. He spent his life helping people, fixing what was broken, finding solutions where others saw problems, and bringing light and laughter wherever he went. His absence will be deeply felt, but the mark he left on the lives of those who knew him will never be forgotten.
